Our club - Officers
Our Club...
Rotaract Club of River Oaks is founded in April 2003 and sponsored by Rotary Club of River Oaks. We are a community-based and have a diverse group of people. The members are consisted of college students, which mostly are from University of Houston, Rice University, University of St. Thomas, and Houston Baptist University, and young professionals, ranging from recruiter to engineer.
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
Every (other) month or so, we fulfill the following areas with various projects/activities/events:
> Community Service – local volunteering, donation drives, etc.
> Professional Development – hosting speakers at meetings, etc.
> Leadership Development – facilitating camp RYLA, taking leads on events, etc.
> Social Events – retreats, parties, etc.
Once again, our meeting time is: to be announced for the upcoming 2008-2009 year; however we still have activities going on, so please check the Events Page . Meetings are also open to discussions of club-related ideas and socializing with members.

Originally from Belgium, Jan is currently a full-time MBA student at Rice University. He came to Houston in the beginning of 2007 as a project manager in the petrochemical industry. Before coming to the States, he obtained a master's degree in electro-mechanical engineering and industrial management. During his graduate studies he studied and worked in various places around the world. | ![]() Jessie Martinez |
Jessie Martinez is currently a senior at the University of St. Thomas, majoring in International Studies. At the University of St. Thomas, Jessie has participated in Campus Ministry, International Studies Society, FOCUS, and has studied abroad. Jessie has also been awarded the Rotary Foundations Ambassadorial Scholarship. He will be representing Rotary abroad in 2009-2010. |

Katya became involved with Rotary International in 1999 through the project "Children of Russia". In 2001 she became a recipient of the Academic Ambassadorial Scholarship and came to study at the University of Houston. Currently Katya is applying to medical school and doing research in cardiovascular sciences at Texas Medical Center. | ![]() JoAnna Pelaez |
JoAnna was a Rotary Excange Student to France for 1999-2000 before graduating from Baylor University. She is now a second year law student at South Texas of Law and just recently from a study abroad program through CalWest/Proyecto ACCESSO in Santiago, Chile, where spent the summer taking international human rights and counterterrorism courses and working for an appellate law firm. While in Chile she was alsoselected to intern at the Court of Appeals of Santiago by the Chilean National Institute of Judicial Studies. |
